Alexis Gideon: The Comet And The Glacier at Art Basel Miami Beach 2016
Art Basel, the world's premier modern and contemporary art fairs, is returning to Miami Beach to showcase the latest and wildest in arts and performances of all kinds.
Very popular with art lovers, collectors and resellers, Art Basel Miami Beach has confirmed year after year its status of not-to-miss art event in the Magic City.
An alternative, not for profit exhibition space dedicated to providing contemporary visual artists the freedom to work outside the realm of conventional sales-driven art galleries, the Locust Projects presents The Comet and the Glacier, a multimedia performance by Pittsburgh-based artist Alexis Gideon.
NY-born Gideon is an acclaimed visual artist, music composer and performer, who draws its inpiration from diverse sources such as Irish writer Lord Dunsany, Irish physicist John William Dunne, or French philosopher Jacques Derrida.
Eclectic and passionate, Gideon creates exhibitions and performances mixing visual arts such as stop-motion animations and a personal music style blending tribal, electronic and hip hop influences.
His latest work, The Comet and the Glacier will use music, sculpted, reliefs, videos, animations, and live performances to provide an immersive experience, stemming from Gideon's own childhood recollections to reflect on how actual memories interact with fabricated ones to create a personal history and culture.
Alexis Gideon: The Comet and The Glacier runs on Dec. 1 (10 am & 8 pm), Dec. 2 (11 am), Dec. 3 (11 am & 3 pm), and Dec. 4 (11 am) at Locust Projects, 3852 N. Miami Ave.
